Contraception and family planning

Family planning is essential for maintaining reproductive health, preventing unplanned pregnancies, and ensuring overall well-being. At our neighborhood clinic, we offer a wide range of contraceptive options tailored to your individual needs.

1. Intrauterine Device (IUD)

An IUD is a small, T-shaped device inserted into the uterus to prevent pregnancy. It is a long-term, reversible method available in two types:
Copper IUD – Non-hormonal and effective for up to 10 years.
Hormonal IUD – Releases hormones to prevent pregnancy and lasts 3–7 years.

2. Hormonal Methods

Hormonal contraceptives use hormones to prevent ovulation and include:
Birth Control Pills – Taken daily to prevent pregnancy.
Contraceptive Patch – A small patch that releases hormones through the skin.
Vaginal Ring – A flexible ring inserted into the vagina and replaced monthly.
Contraceptive Injection – A shot given every 3 months for long-term protection

3. Emergency Contraception

Emergency contraception helps prevent pregnancy after unprotected sex or contraceptive failure.
Emergency Contraceptive Pill (Morning-After Pill) – Most effective when taken within 72 hours.
Copper IUD – Can be inserted up to 5 days after unprotected intercourse for emergency prevention.

4. Barrier Methods

Barrier methods prevent sperm from reaching the egg and include:
Male Condoms – A widely used, effective method that also protects against STIs.
Female Condoms – A flexible pouch inserted into the vagina before intercourse.
Diaphragm & Cervical Cap – Silicone cups inserted into the vagina to block sperm

5. Natural Family Planning (Fertility Awareness Method)

This method involves tracking fertility signs, such as basal body temperature and menstrual cycle patterns, to avoid pregnancy naturally.

6. Female Sterilization (Tubal Ligation – “Tying Tubes”)

A permanent birth control option where the fallopian tubes are blocked or cut to prevent pregnancy. It is a safe and effective choice for women who do not wish to have children in the future.
